OneDrive file status not updating properly

Hey hi,

I'm trying to make sure all my files stay downloaded on my computer.

I have:

  • set the overall OneDrive folder set to "always keep on this device"
  • clicked the "download all files" button in the "Files On-Demand" section under the advanced area of the sync and backup tab in OneDrive settings
  • Have checked indivdual files and folders to make sure they're set to "always keep on this device"

yet many of the folders still say "Available when online" under the status column and have the cloud icon in file explorer. Sometimes entering and exiting the folder fixes this, but not always, and it will often reset itself after a period of time. Any advice?

There's also a separate but perhaps related problem where files will have the not-solid green checkmark under the status column which indicates they're available on the device but not set to always be there, despite the appropriate option being checked in the right click menu.

Storage Sense is also turned off, and has been on the main PC having issues with this for the whole time. Thanks to Craig for letting me know this is a feature though!

Hi, and welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Storage Sense may be configured to make your files online-only after a specified time. However, that should never happen when you select "Always keep on this device," but check anyway.

Select "Never" under "Content will become online-only if not opened for more than: "Never".

    I hope that helps.
