Hi Tash, Thanks for posting here in Microsoft Community, I understand that you purchased Minecraft Bedrock on PC a long time ago and are concerned because you don’t have access to Java Edition while your friend does.

To try to fix this first make sure your account actually owns Bedrock. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/store, sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Minecraft, open your Library, and look for “Minecraft for Windows.” If it is not listed there, then that account does not qualify and Java will not unlock. Also, While still signed in on the same account, go to https://www.minecraft.net/store/minecraft-java-bedrock-edition-pc. If it says “Play,” then you already own Java and the issue is likely with the launcher. If it says “Buy,” then the Java entitlement is missing on that account. You can also, ask your friend which Microsoft account owns Bedrock, where it was purchased, and whether Java unlocked automatically on that same account. In most cases, this comparison immediately explains why one of you has Java and the other does not.

May I know which Microsoft account you’re signed into on the launcher, and was Bedrock originally purchased on that same account?

If you still needed further assistance or you still have any more question feel free to comment I'll be happy to assist you.

    Best regards,

    Ice C.

Owning Minecraft: Bedrock Edition does not automatically grant Minecraft: Java Edition in all cases. Entitlements depend on how and where the game was purchased and on current offers. The context provided does not list any active entitlement or upgrade program that guarantees Java Edition for Bedrock purchasers.

To verify ownership and what was actually purchased:

    1. Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/orders with the Microsoft account used to buy Minecraft.
    2. Check Order history for the exact product name(s) and platform purchased.
    3. If only “Minecraft for Windows” or another Bedrock-only product appears, Java Edition is not owned on that account, which is why the launcher shows a purchase option.
    4. If there is confusion about charges or multiple purchases on different accounts/cards, compare the bank statement with the Microsoft Order history to ensure the correct account is being checked.

If the order history shows only Bedrock and not Java, Java Edition must be purchased separately on the account that is being used in the launcher.
