Why is there no official app from Microsoft for viewing and editing PDF even after so many years? Why do I have to open PDF inside microsoft edge browser? Why can't there just be a dedicated app?? Everything has a dedicated app from microsoft be it viewing photos or watching videos or listening to music yet there is no app for editing PDF, why? I want answers.

Have you looked at your default apps to see what you can select for PDFs? Do you have Microsoft Edge as the application you want to use. https://techterms.com/definition/app

    and look at this https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/features/pdf-reader?form=MT0160&cs=367099006

    Here is mine.

Hi Anindya Sundar, Bhar, Thanks for posting here in Microsoft Community, I understand that you are concerned about PDF is controlled by Adobe’s ecosystem.

Microsoft treats Edge as the PDF app to avoid building and maintaining a separate one, even if that’s inconvenience for users who just want a simple viewer. Also, Microsoft deliberately limits PDF editing to avoid undermining Adobe, offering only basic features so it doesn’t replace Acrobat or disrupt enterprise agreements.

you may check this link for references: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-pdf

If you still needed further assistance or you still have any more question, feel free to comment, I'll be happy to assist you.

    Best regards,

    Ron A.
