Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.
Yes, you can move to a Microsoft Family plan even if it’s under your brother’s account.
To help narrow down the issue:
- Has your brother already sent you an invite, or not yet?
- Is your current plan active right now or already expired?
If you haven’t already, here’s how it works:
- Ask your brother to invite you to the Microsoft Family subscription
- He can do this from his Microsoft account > Services & subscriptions: https://account.microsoft.com/services Share with family
- You accept the invite using your own Microsoft account
Once you join, you’ll get the benefits (Outlook, OneDrive storage, etc.) under your account.
For your current personal subscription: You don’t need to transfer it. Just turn off recurring billing or cancel it to avoid being charged twice.
After successfully accepting invite:
- Check if you able to see your Microsoft 365 Family subscription under the Services & subscriptions page here: https://account.microsoft.com/services and if it is active.
- If active, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your subscription status.
If issue still persists:
Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.
Here’s how (Windows):
- Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
- Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.
If you're using Mac, to uninstall all Office app: https://support.microsoft.com/office/uninstall-office-for-mac-eefa1199-5b58-43af-8a3d-b73dc1a8cae3
Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services again.
- Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
- Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
- That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.
If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!
I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Regards,
John J.D.
