Hi Emma Coe,
It definitely feels alarming when the device suddenly cannot find Windows and UEFI no longer shows Windows Boot Manager. In most cases, it’s related to boot configuration or a corrupted Windows boot loader, which can happen after an interrupted update, unexpected shutdown, firmware glitch, or storage issue. Let's try:
1 - Check UEFI boot configuration
- Power off the Surface completely > press and hold Volume Up
- Press Power once and release Volume Up when UEFI appears
- Go to Boot configuration > check if Windows Boot Manager is listed
- If it appears, make sure it is enabled and at the top of the boot order.
2 - If it is missing entirely, reinstall with Surface USB recovery image
- Press and hold the Power button for at least 30 seconds > let it boot on and off
- Release the button after the Surface logo appears in final boot sequence
- Refer to: Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support
- On another working PC, download the Surface Go 3 recovery image
- Create a USB recovery drive > boot into the Surface Go 3
- Press and hold Volume Down > press Power once
- Follow on‑screen instructions to reinstall Windows.
Disclaimer: At this point, performing a reinstall is the best chance to get your PC back into a working condition. Note that this will remove installed apps and might delete your files.
If recovery media does not detect internal storage, this strongly suggests a hardware storage failure. At this point, software repair is no longer possible, and Surface Go 3 uses soldered SSD storage which is not user‑replaceable. You need to check warranty / service options for your device.
If you want, you can share what you see under UEFI > Storage (for example, whether Internal Storage shows at all). That will help identify if this is recoverable or a physical repair situation!
