    Good day Edwin Wilson!

From what you shared, you’re using a new Windows 11 computer and, after completing initial updates, the PIN stopped working and the “I forgot my PIN” option doesn’t respond at the sign‑in screen.

Since this is a brand‑new computer, if the PIN still doesn’t work after trying the steps suggested by Q&A Assist, you could consider using Reset your PC > Keep my files. This option reinstalls Windows while keeping personal files, though installed apps and custom settings will be removed. Because you’re unable to sign in to Windows Settings, the reset can be started from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

    Notes:

    • After Reset this PC, Windows will ask you to sign in again with the same Microsoft account that was previously used on the device.
    • If device encryption is enabled, it’s also important to have the BitLocker recovery key available, as Windows may request it during the reset process.

Hope this could help. Feel free to post back if you need further support!

Use the password to sign in first, then reset the PIN from Settings, since the “I forgot my PIN” flow is not working.

    1. At the sign-in screen, select Sign-in options.
    2. Choose Enter your password, then sign in with the account password.
    3. Once signed in, open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options (or use this shortcut: Sign-in options).
    4. Under PIN (Windows Hello) choose either:
      • Change PIN if the current PIN is recognized, or
      • I forgot my PIN to remove and recreate it, then follow the verification steps.

If the PIN still fails after recreation, sign out and sign back in, then try creating the PIN again as suggested in the Windows Hello troubleshooting guidance.

If unable to sign in with the password (for example, password also not accepted), reset the Microsoft account password from another device:

    1. From any browser, go to Reset password and complete the reset.
    2. Return to the PC sign-in screen and sign in with the new password via Sign-in options > Enter your password.
    3. Then repeat the steps above to reset the PIN from Settings.
