I have installed Microsoft Office Home and Business 2024 but it is linked to the wrong account. How do I change accounts if I cannot log in?

When an Office licence is activated, that becomes permanently linked to the Microsoft account used as a digital licence and there is no method provided to move the licence to another Microsoft account, this forum is just a user to user forum, you will need to contact Microsoft Support directly to ask them if it is possible to move the Office licence, try using this method to contact their support.

    Go to this link: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus

    Select Microsoft 365

    Click 'Get Home Support'.

In the box provided, type billing.

Press Enter, then on the next page, scroll down and click 'Sign in to Contact Support'.

Navigate to Microsoft 365 and Office - Manage my Subscription.

Select the 'Chat with support agent in web browser' option

Office Home and Business 2024 is tied to the Microsoft account that was used to redeem or purchase it. The license itself cannot be moved to a different Microsoft account, but the installed apps can be signed out from the wrong account and signed in with the correct one, as long as that correct account actually owns the license.

Since sign-in is currently blocked, use these steps to correct the account association on the device and then sign in with the right account:

    1. Remove the wrong account from Windows and Office
      1. Open any Office app (Word, Excel, etc).
      2. Go to File > Account.
      3. Under User Information, choose Sign out for the current account.
      4. Close all Office apps.
      5. In Windows, go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and remove any work/school or Microsoft account that corresponds to the wrong Office sign-in.
      6. Open Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials and remove any saved credentials that reference the wrong Microsoft or organization account.
    2. Confirm which Microsoft account owns Office Home & Business 2024
      1. In a browser, go to the Services & subscriptions page at account.microsoft.com/services.
      2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used when Office Home & Business 2024 was redeemed or purchased.
      3. Verify that Office Home & Business 2024 appears under Services & subscriptions.
      4. If it does not appear, sign out and try any other Microsoft accounts that might have been used. The product will only show under the account it was originally associated with.
    3. Reinstall or repair using the correct account (if needed)
      1. Once the correct account is identified and signed in at account.microsoft.com/services, locate Office Home & Business 2024.
      2. Select Install > Install on this device to download the correct installer.
      3. Run the installer and complete setup.
    4. Sign in to Office with the correct account
      1. Open Word or another Office app.
      2. When prompted to sign in, use the same Microsoft account that shows Office Home & Business 2024 under Services & subscriptions.
      3. Go to File > Account and confirm that the product name and the signed-in account match the correct Microsoft account.

If the wrong account is the only one that can currently sign in on this device (for example, due to multifactor authentication issues), those sign-in problems must be resolved first (password reset, MFA reset, or admin/data protection support for business accounts) before the correct account can be used.
