The camera on my laptop is not working it says that it's either blocked or there's a button on the keyboard to push to make the camera work again but I don't know how to do that so I need help getting my camera working

See the "User's Guide" on the laptop for full information on how to properly turn on or unlock the camera. If you do not have a "User's Manual", then write the full name of the laptop model and I will try to find help.

Use these steps in order, testing the camera after each step:

1. Check for a physical camera switch or slider
   • Look closely at the top edge of the screen where the camera lens is.
   • Many laptops have a small privacy shutter/slider that covers the camera. Slide it open so the lens is visible.
2. Use the keyboard camera key
   • On many laptops there is a function key (F1–F12) with a small camera icon.
   • Press that key once.
   • If nothing changes, hold the Fn key and press the function key with the camera icon (Fn + F-key).
3. Test the camera in the Camera app
   • Select Start > Camera.
   • If prompted to allow access, choose Yes.
   • If the preview works here but not in other apps, the problem is with those apps’ settings.
4. Check Windows Update and optional driver updates
   • Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
   • If available, go to Advanced options > Optional updates and install any camera or driver updates.
   • Restart the laptop: Start > Power > Restart (do not just wake from sleep).
   • Test again with the Camera app.
5. Run the Camera troubleshooter
   • Open Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
   • Find Camera and select Run to let Windows detect and fix common camera issues.

If the camera still shows as blocked after checking the shutter/slider and using the camera function key, and it does not work in the Camera app, the next step is to visit the laptop manufacturer’s support page and reinstall the webcam driver they provide.
