iCloud for Windows App and Syncing

I’m running Windows 11 (fully updated) and I’m having an issue with the iCloud for Windows app (current version) when trying to sync with Outlook (classic).

The problem is that I don’t even get the option to enable Contacts or Calendars in the iCloud for Windows interface. Those checkboxes simply don’t appear. Instead, the bottom of the app displays a message directing me to iCloud.com for Contacts and Calendar information, which wasn’t the case before.

On my previous setup, Windows 10 with an older version of iCloud for Windows, I never had this issue. Everything synced normally.

I’ve tried every fix I could find in the online community, but none of them apply because most people are troubleshooting sync failures, whereas I’m missing the actual ability to select Contacts and Calendars in the first place.

Here’s what I’ve already attempted:

• Verified the iCloud Outlook Add‑in is active

• Applied a registry edit suggested in several threads

• Uninstalled and reinstalled the iCloud app

• Uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365

• Restarted the PC multiple times

• Checked for Windows updates

• Confirmed my Apple devices are functioning normally (though I have not updated my iPhone to the latest iOS, and I don’t understand why the iOS version would affect the Windows app’s ability to display sync options)

One common suggestion is to download iCloud for Windows directly from Apple instead of the Microsoft Store. However, I cannot find any standalone installer on Apple’s website. The link Apple provides simply redirects back to the Microsoft Store.

Does a non‑Microsoft download actually exist? If so, could someone provide the direct link?

At this point, it appears to be an issue with the current version of the iCloud for Windows app itself, not with Outlook or Windows.

If anyone has encountered this specific problem or found a workaround that restores the Contacts/Calendar sync options, I would really appreciate any guidance.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

    Hi g gagliani,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

I understand how frustrating it is when the Contacts/Calendars options disappear entirely (as opposed to a normal “sync failed” issue).

To narrow this down and suggest the right fix, could you please share these quick details:

    • Did you install iCloud for Windows from the Microsoft Store?
      • If yes, please provide the iCloud for Windows version (Settings > Apps > iCloud > Version).
    • Is your Outlook (classic) installed as Microsoft 365 Click‑to‑Run, or is it the Microsoft Store version?
    • Please share the full path to OUTLOOK.EXE on your PC (for example: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE) and whether Office is 32‑bit or 64‑bit.
      • This is relevant because iCloud may rely on the “App Paths\OUTLOOK.EXE” registry detection to decide whether to display Contacts/Calendars.
    • On your Apple Account, have you enabled Advanced Data Protection or are you using Security Keys?

Once I have these details, I can point you to the most likely cause and the most targeted workaround.
