I have been trying to complete the windows 11 update. It states I can use external storage to complete update, then states I have to clear 734MB of storage I have tried everything to clear the storage, I have deleted absolutely everything from my laptop the only things that remain on my laptop are things that help my laptop run. I have tried everything and even the recommended clearing where it finds what you should get rid of and it still does not seem to be enough to be able to complete this update. I have no idea what else to do, please could I get some advise asap (I do have a gen 1 surface laptop go)

    Hi Abbie Andrews,

Thank you for sharing the details. I can see how this would feel stuck, especially when you’ve already removed personal files and the update still asks for more space.

To make sure we target the right spot (and not ask you to delete anything important), could you share a few quick details?

    • How much free space is showing on Local Disk (C:) right now, and what is the total size of the C: drive? (File Explorer > This PC)
    • When you open Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files, which categories take the most space (a screenshot without personal information is perfect)?
    • Do you have an external USB/SD drive connected with at least 10 GB free (and is it showing up in File Explorer)?

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Wishing you a smoother, more convenient experience going forward.

Hi Abbie, you have not said what you have done to clear files? Easiest (I hope you have not done this so I am wasting my time) This PC\C:Drive>Right click>Properties>Disk Clean up. When finished do same again>But when Disk clean up has finished> Clean up system files>When finished do same again, then when system clean up has finished>More options tab (at top)>Cleanup restore points. (This process can remove GBs.
