    Welcome Sharon Omalley,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you are unable to sign in to your Microsoft email and Outlook indicates that you need to sign in via a web browser instead.

Building on the earlier suggestions, you might also consider the following options:

Step 1: Open a web browser and go to https://outlook.live.com

Step 2: Sign in with your Microsoft email address and password

Step 3: If sign-in is successful, check for any security prompts or messages shown in the mailbox

    Step 4: Close Outlook completely

Step 5: Reopen Outlook and try signing in again

Step 6: If prompted to add the account again, remove the existing account and add it back

Besides, you can create a new Outlook profile and set it as the default profile

    • Open Control Panel
    • Select Mail
    • Select Show Profiles
    • Select Add and create a new profile
    • Add your email account and choose Always to use this profile

I hope this information helps resolve your issue. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me again in this thread.

Hi! If Outlook says you need to sign in through a browser, that is often part of Microsoft’s modern authentication flow, so the first thing to check is whether you can sign in directly to your Outlook.com/Microsoft email account in a web browser such as Edge. If the browser sign-in also fails, the issue is more likely with the account itself rather than the Outlook app. In that case, please share a screenshot of the error message.
