I am attempting to deploy a node.js web application from my GitHub account and I receive this error: "Operation cannot be completed without additional quota. \r\nAdditional details - Location: \r\nCurrent Limit (Basic VMs): 0 \r\nCurrent Usage: 0\r\nAmount required for this deployment (Basic VMs): 1 \r\n(Minimum) New Limit that you should request to enable this deployment: 1." When I try a modify my quota I do not have enough information to know which quota type or which resource. How can I get the quota I need to complete this deployment?

Every path to adjust quote leads to a page that lists zero quotas and this nothing to adjust.

This error is caused by an Azure App Service regional quota limitation (not by GitHub or your Node.js code). When creating a Basic-tier App Service Plan (like B1), Azure checks the Microsoft.Web quotas for App Service workers in your chosen region. Many popular regions start new subscriptions with a Basic VMs quota of 0, which blocks the deployment.

This is separate from standard Compute (VM/vCPU) quotas, so it won't appear when you check those.

How to resolve it

Option 1: Request the quota increase

Go to your Subscription in the Azure portal > Usage + quotas (on the left menu).

Set Provider = Microsoft.Web.

Filter by your deployment region (e.g., East US).

Locate Basic VMs (or the matching SKU).

Click the pencil/edit icon and request an increase to at least 1 (requesting 2 is often safer for future scaling).

If you don’t see a direct edit option or the quota isn’t listed, create a support request instead:

Go to Help + support > New support request.

Issue type: Service and subscription limits (quotas).

Quota type: Function or Web App (Windows and Linux).

Specify Basic VMs, your region, current limit 0, and new limit 1–2.

Paste your exact error message in the description.

Important note for Free Trial subscriptions Azure Free Trial (and Azure for Students) subscriptions are not eligible for quota increases. In that case, you have two options:

Upgrade your subscription to Pay-As-You-Go.

Try deploying to a different region that still has available quota for Basic tier.

Once the quota is updated, simply retry your GitHub deployment, no changes to your code or workflow are needed.
