The first update made the fingerprint sensor "unavailable" which I solved by uninstalling and restarting, so it reinstalled by default.

THIS update, the fingerprint sensor was gone again - uninstalling the fingerprint sensor means the ENTIRE "biometric devices" folder has gone. Competely. Utterly. Gone. Not in hidden files. Nowhere.

I ran scannow in cmd but no issues were found. I have restarted multiple times. I have run the BIOS checks. I have downloaded the entire "firmware" from the Microsoft website for the Surface Go 2 and installed it and restarted. Nothing.

I now have no fingerprint reader, no biometric folder, and no way to get it back, seemingly.

Open Device Manager (right-click Start → Device Manager)

Click View → Show hidden devices

Look for anything with a yellow warning icon, or any unknown/unrecognized devices

If you see anything suspicious, right-click → Uninstall device (check "delete driver software" if offered)

Then: Action → Scan for hardware changes

Visit here to Download Drivers and Firmware:

If the sensor hardware is visible in BIOS diagnostics but Windows still won't see it, a repair install (keeping files and apps)
