A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Unwanted shared files and links in OneDrive cannot be fully prevented because anyone who knows an email address can send a sharing link. These items can be ignored safely as long as they are not opened, and malware in them cannot run remotely just by being shared.
For a personal OneDrive account, the practical options are:
- Turn off or reduce notifications so the shares are less intrusive.
- Delete or ignore the shared items instead of interacting with them.
- If any shared file or folder is offensive or illegal, report it to Microsoft for review:
- Go to the OneDrive website and sign in with the Microsoft account.
- Open the Shared view.
- Right‑click the offensive or illegal file/folder and select Report a concern.
- Choose a reason, add any details, and select Report.
If the content is coming from a work or school account associated with a paid Microsoft 365 subscription, the organization that owns that account is responsible for handling abuse; in that case, contact the Microsoft 365 administrator for that organization.
There is no supported way in the provided documentation to globally block all future OneDrive shares from unknown senders.
