I have replaced my printer/scanner and I am unable to use the scan function of the new printer. Printing functions properly. Windows scan & fax does not offer way to delete the old Printer info or add in the new. When I attempt to scan it tries to connect to the absent HP device. The information in the archived answer to this question do NOT correspond with the screen presentation that I receive (Win10/64) when I try to duplicate them. Any suggestions?

    Hi Ulysses,

Please right-click Start, and click Device Manager.

Select a device or a category in Device Manager.

From the Action menu, select Devices and Printers.

If your old printer/scanner is shown in Devices and Printers, right-click it and choose "Remove device".

Also, check if your new printer is shown in that applet.

Once done, open Windows Fax and Scan. From the Tools menu, click Scan Settings. Choose your new scanner.

Use Windows to remove the old printer/scanner entry, then reinstall the new device so Windows Fax and Scan can see it correctly.

    1. Remove the old printer/scanner
      1. Select Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
      2. In the list, select the old HP printer/scanner.
      3. Click Remove device and confirm.
    2. Reinstall the new printer/scanner
      1. Still under Printers & scanners, select Add a printer or scanner.
      2. When Windows finds the new printer, choose Add device.
      3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.
    3. Test with Windows Fax and Scan
      1. Open Windows Fax and Scan.
      2. Select New Scan.
      3. If prompted for a scanner, choose the newly installed device from the list.

If the new scanner still does not appear, remove it again from Printers & scanners, then reinstall using the manufacturer’s driver package, and repeat the steps in Windows Fax and Scan.
