Hello,

Is this for a Microsoft 365 subscription, or is it for a one-time purchase perpetual license like Office Home 2024?

If it is subscription, if you have already used the code to redeem it, you no longer need that code. Once redeemed, it is linked to your Microsoft account, you can go ahead and install.

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on Apps on the left.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

If it is perpetual license, I need to know the exact name of the product, for example, Office Home 2024, or Office Pro Plus 202X, etc.

For most current Microsoft 365 or Office versions, the product key is usually needed only once (to redeem and link it to an account). After that, installation on another device is done through the associated Microsoft account, not by re‑using the key.

Use these steps depending on the situation:

1. If Microsoft 365 or a one‑time Office purchase is already linked to a Microsoft account
   • A product key is not required to reinstall.
   • Go to the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the same Microsoft account used to buy or redeem Office.
   • From there, select the Office/Microsoft 365 product and choose Install on the new device.

2. If Office came pre‑installed on a device (Office 2010 example)
   • Check the Certificate of Authenticity that came with the computer. A genuine Office 2010 COA will say "Microsoft Office 2010" and include the product key.
   • If Office 2010 was supplied on a product key card with a PIN, the 27‑character PIN can no longer be redeemed. If the actual product key was never retrieved and is not available, installation/activation cannot be completed.
3. If the product key is lost or damaged
   • If there is valid proof of purchase, Microsoft support may be able to replace the product key or provide other options. Use the Contact Microsoft support link in the articles to start that process.
4. If Microsoft 365 is prompting for a product key on a new device
   • If Office came pre‑installed and shows a banner that most features are disabled, start a new Microsoft 365 Family trial, sign in with the Microsoft account associated with Office, or purchase Office. See Activate Office from the same article.

If none of the above applies and the key cannot be found or recovered, a new Office/Microsoft 365 license may be required.
