Our company would like to upgrade all the computers from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Professional (About 15 computers). I have now completed two computers, but this is too slow. Also, there are restrictions on the payment method. How can I achieve this goal faster?

    Hi Frank Yin,

It is completely understandable that upgrading 15 devices individually through the Microsoft Store is proving to be a tedious bottleneck, especially with corporate payment method restrictions. The Microsoft Store upgrade path is strictly designed for individual consumers and processes transactions on a per-device basis, making it highly inefficient for fleet deployments. Fortunately, the underlying architecture of Windows 11 Home already contains all the core operating system files required for Windows 11 Professional. The upgrade process is not a heavy installation of new software, but rather a digital unlock triggered by a valid Pro product key.

To achieve this goal much faster and bypass the Microsoft Store entirely, your organization should purchase the required Windows 11 Pro product keys centrally through an official Microsoft certified reseller or volume licensing partner. This allows your purchasing department to handle the transaction using standard corporate payment methods such as purchase orders, invoicing, or corporate credit cards, completely outside of the operating system environment.

Once your IT team has acquired the batch of 25-character product keys, you can rapidly deploy them without manually navigating through the Settings interface on every single computer. You can utilize a built-in Windows command-line tool to force the edition upgrade seamlessly. On each target machine, simply right-click the Start button, open Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin), and execute the following command: changepk.exe /ProductKey XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (replacing the X's with the unique Pro key assigned to that device). The system will instantly validate the key, unlock the Professional features such as BitLocker and Active Directory domain join capabilities, and initiate a quick reboot to finalize the transition.

I hope this answer provided you with a clear, efficient, and centralized strategy to upgrade your company's fleet. If it did, please click "Accept Answer". Should you have any questions or need further assistance with deploying these keys, feel free to leave a comment!

    Tracy.

For a small fleet like ~15 PCs, the fastest and most manageable options are:

    1. Buy Windows 11 Pro licenses centrally, then change product keys on each PC
This avoids per‑device Store payments. Prerequisites:
      • Each PC must be running an activated Windows 11 Home.
Steps on each PC (after obtaining a valid Windows 11 Pro product key for that device):
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Activation (or use this shortcut: Open System > Activation).
      2. Confirm that Activation state shows as activated.
      3. Next to Change product key, select Change.
      4. In Change product key, enter the 25‑character Windows 11 Pro key assigned to that PC.
      5. Select Next to start the edition upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
This process is quick (no reinstall) and can be done in parallel on multiple machines by IT staff.
    2. Use Microsoft Store upgrade flow, but only if payment method is acceptable
If the payment method restriction can be solved (for example, a company payment method that works in Microsoft Store), the built‑in upgrade flow is simple:
      • On each PC, open the Windows 11 Pro upgrade page in Microsoft Store using:
        Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro
      • Store detects that Windows 11 Home is activated and guides through purchase and upgrade.
This is convenient but less ideal if centralized purchasing is required or if Store payments are restricted.
    3. General guidance for choosing the right edition and upgrade path
      • Confirm that Windows 11 Pro is the correct edition for the business needs (BitLocker, Remote Desktop, domain/Entra ID join, etc.).
      • For any devices not yet on Windows 11, first move them to a supported Windows version, then follow the edition upgrade path documented for Windows.

For 15 devices, the most efficient business approach is typically: purchase the required Windows 11 Pro licenses through a central channel, then perform the manual edition upgrade (Change product key) on each PC, possibly scripted or done in batches.
