Unable to view organizations to switch between, but see them on "My Account"

I have been added to two other organizations other than my home organization. When I go to "my account", I am able to see them listed as such. I have covered all of the trouble shooting items listed, clear cache and removed and reinstalled on both my laptop and my phone. I have tried accessing teams in an incognito tab, can't see it there either. How do I fix this to where I can see the other organizations and be able to switch between them in the desktop app?

    Dear @Christy Lankford,

I understand how confusing this can be, especially since you can already see the other organizations listed under My Account.

What you are experiencing is expected behavior in Microsoft Teams. The My Account portal shows all organizations your identity is associated with in Microsoft Entra ID, but Teams will only display organizations in the app when the correct account context is signed in and when Teams access is enabled for you in those organizations.

To resolve this, please kindly try the following:

1.In the Teams desktop app, select your profile picture and choose Add another account.

2.Sign in using the same work account that shows the additional organizations on the My Account page.

    • Sign in to the My Account portal with your work or school account.
    • Select Organizations from the left navigation pane.

    • Review your other organizations, making sure you recognize all of the organizations that you have access to.

3.Check Teams’ account and org visibility

    • In Teams desktop, open Settings and more > Settings > Accounts and orgs.
    • Ensure the organizations are visible there and that the toggles are turned on so Teams can show activity and allow switching.

4.Switch accounts from the profile menu and check whether the organizations appear.

5.Sign out fully and re-open Teams

    • Sign out of all accounts in Teams
    • Fully quit Teams (right‑click tray icon > Quit)
    • Reopen Teams
    • Sign in again with the work account
    • Check org switcher

If the organizations still do not appear after this, it usually means that:

    • Teams access is not enabled for your account in those organizations
    • Guest access to Teams is restricted in those tenants.

In that case, you may need to ask an administrator from the other organizations to confirm that your account is enabled for Microsoft Teams.

Please let me know the results after trying the steps above, and I’ll be happy to assist further if needed. I appreciate your patience while we work through this.

I am looking forward to your response!

In Teams, organizations only appear in the account/organization switcher if the account is actually a guest or member in those tenants for Teams, and the correct account is signed in to the client. The “My Account” portal can show more organizations that the identity has access to in Microsoft Entra ID, but those do not automatically surface as selectable orgs in the Teams client.

To ensure the organizations can be used and switched to in Teams:

    1. Confirm the correct account is used
      • In Teams desktop, select the profile picture.
      • If the email shown does not match the work or school account used on the My Account portal, select Add another account and sign in with that work or school account.
      • After sign-in, use the profile menu to switch between accounts.
    2. Verify the organizations and guest access
      • Go to the My Account portal (https://myaccount.microsoft.com) with the same work or school account.
      • Select Organizations from the left navigation.
      • Confirm that the other organizations are listed under Other organizations and not as a separate home account.
      • If they are listed there, the account is recognized as a guest/member in those tenants.
    3. Check Teams’ account and org visibility
      • In Teams desktop, open Settings and more > Settings > Accounts and orgs.
      • Ensure the organizations are visible there and that the toggles are turned on so Teams can show activity and allow switching.

If the organizations are visible in My Account but do not appear in Accounts and orgs in Teams after signing in with the same work or school account, the guest/member relationship for Teams may not be fully established in those tenants. In that case, an administrator in each external organization must verify that the account is added correctly (for example, as a guest in Microsoft Entra ID and in at least one Team) so that Teams can surface them as switchable organizations.
