I bought a new laptop and used Laplink to migrate to the new one (both are Windows 11 Home). I was having trouble with my Office 2021 and bought Office 2024. I downloaded it but cannot find it or its components. I tried to download it again to the same computer and could not because Microsoft says I used my key already. Now all I have is Word from Office 2019 (which I thought I had uninstalled. What do I do next?

Follow these steps to get Office 2024 working on the new laptop:

    1. Uninstall older/incorrect Office versions
      • In Windows 11, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Uninstall any of the following if they appear:
        • Microsoft 365 / Office 365
        • Office Trial
        • Office 2019 / Office 2021
        • Any other Office edition you don’t intend to use
      • Restart the laptop after uninstalling.
    2. Do not try to reuse the product key directly
      • The Office 2024 product key is used once to redeem and bind the license to a Microsoft account.
      • After redemption, reinstallations are done by signing in with that same Microsoft account, not by entering the key again. That is why the key now shows as already used.
    3. Reinstall Office 2024 from the Microsoft account
      • Open a browser and sign in to the Microsoft account that was used when Office 2024 was first redeemed/purchased.
      • Go to the Services & subscriptions page for that account.
      • Under Services & subscriptions, locate Office Home 2024 (or the exact Office 2024 product purchased).
      • Next to it, select Install > Install on this device.
      • This downloads the correct Office 2024 installer for that license.
      • Run the downloaded setup file and complete the installation.
    4. Activate Office 2024
      • Open Word or Excel after installation.
      • When prompted, sign in with the same Microsoft account used above.
      • Confirm activation status under File > Account; it should show the Office 2024 product as activated.
    5. If Office apps still seem missing
      • Use Windows search on the taskbar and type the app name, for example Word or Excel, and open it from the results.
      • If the apps still cannot be found after a successful install, follow the guidance in Can’t find Office applications in Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7? referenced from the troubleshooting article.

If Office 2024 does not appear under Services & subscriptions, it may have been redeemed under a different Microsoft account; in that case, sign out and try any other Microsoft accounts that might have been used.
