Hold Power button for 20–30 seconds

Release → wait 5 seconds → press power again

Hold Power + Volume Up together for 15–20 seconds

Ignore logo flashes → release after 20 sec

Wait → then press power again

    Try:

Choose: Surface → Device → Won’t turn on

Try these steps in order on the Surface Laptop:

    1. Force a restart
Press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds, keep holding until the logo screen appears again, then release the button. This forces a shutdown and restart.
For details, see Force a shut down and restart your Surface.
    2. If it still gets stuck or goes black, start from a USB recovery drive
If the logo appears briefly and then the screen goes black or Windows does not start, reset the device using a USB recovery drive:
      1. Shut down the Surface (hold the power button if needed).
      2. Insert a prepared USB recovery drive into the USB port.
      3. Press and hold the volume-down button, then press and release the power button.
      4. When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down button and follow the on-screen recovery instructions.
For creating/using a recovery drive, see Creating and using a USB recovery drive.
    3. If the Surface still does not work, use a service option
Because the device is under warranty, use one of these options:

If online or phone contact paths are failing, creating a service order and shipping label directly through the warranty/service portal is the recommended next step.
