    Hi @Lisa Carlson

Thank you very much for reaching out regarding updating the credit card information for your business subscription. I appreciate your patience and the details you provided.

To help you update the payment method as smoothly as possible, please follow the guidance below based on how your subscription was purchased:

Option 1 - If your subscription was purchased through a partner / CSP / marketplace

Since the subscription is managed by a reseller or partner, credit card updates must be handled directly by them.

Please contact your partner or procurement team to update the new credit card in the partner’s billing system and ensure the new card is assigned to the correct subscription and any failed invoices are retried.

Option 2 - If your subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft

(Updating payment methods requires Global Administrator or Billing Administrator permissions.
If you do not have these permissions, please contact your internal administrator to assist or grant access)

To update your credit card in Microsoft 365 Admin Center, please follow the steps below:

1/ Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (using an account with Global Admin or Billing Admin rights)

    2/ Add the new card:

    • Go to Billing > Payment methods
    • Select Add a payment method and enter the card details and billing address
    • User's image
    • Select Set as default if you want this card used for all future charges (Optional)

3/ Assign the card to your subscription:

    • Go to Billing > Your products (Subscriptions)
    • Select the subscription > Change payment method > choose the new card > Save

4/ Retry failed invoices (if applicable):

    • Go to Billing > Bills & payments (Invoices)
    • Select any unpaid or failed invoice and choose Pay now or Retry

    5/ Confirm status:

    • Ensure the subscription shows as Active and that payment confirmation has been received.

    Option 3 - Contact Support

If you require further guidance on any of the steps above, or need additional assistance related to billing or payment issues, I strongly recommend contacting the Microsoft Billing Support team directly.

Once you submit a support request, a live support agent will get in touch with you to provide personalized assistance and help ensure your subscription and billing details are updated correctly.

To proceed, please follow the steps below:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with your Microsoft administrator account. (If you're not an admin, please contact your organization's administrator to submit a request on your behalf.)
    • On right bottom corner click on "Help & support"
    • User's image
    • After that choose the "Contact support".
    • User's image
    • Describe your issue and request to speak with a live agent. You may be offered options for chat or call depending on your region and support availability.

To renew a Microsoft 365 business subscription with an updated credit card, first update the payment method on the billing account, then ensure the subscription is set for recurring billing.

    1. Edit the existing payment method (card number unchanged) If the card number stayed the same and only the expiration date, name, or billing address changed:
    2. Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    3. In Simplified view: select the Products tab, then View payment methods. In Dashboard view: go to Bills & payments and select the Payment methods tab.
    4. For the payment method to update, select the More actions (three dots) menu and choose Edit.
    5. In Edit payment method, update the name, billing address, and/or expiration date.
    6. Enter the card security code when prompted, then select Save.

This keeps the same card number and ensures future recurring charges succeed.

    1. Replace with a new card (card number changed) If the account number changed (new card, old one lost/expired):
    2. In the same Payment methods area of the admin center, add the new credit/debit card as a separate payment method.
    3. Assign this new payment method to the relevant subscriptions.
    4. After confirming the subscriptions are using the new method, delete the old card from Payment methods if no longer needed.
    5. Confirm recurring billing so renewal succeeds If the subscription is close to renewal or has lapsed due to payment failure:
    6. Ensure the subscription is active and recurring billing is on in the Microsoft 365 admin center (Billing/Subscriptions view for business accounts).
    7. Once the payment method is valid and assigned, Microsoft will automatically charge the card at the end of the subscription term.

If the subscription has already expired due to payment issues, renew it in the admin center after updating the payment method; the updated card will be used for the renewal charge.
