This behavior is usually caused by how Teams routes audio when sharing PowerPoint or video, especially when using PowerPoint Live or multiple audio devices.
For PowerPoint Live with embedded audio, if attendees or the presenter have more than one speaker/output device with the same name, Teams can send the presentation audio to the wrong device. That can make it seem like all audio is lost after the video plays, and users often fix it temporarily by leaving and rejoining.
A better way to recover and prevent this is:
- During the meeting, open More (…) → Audio settings.
- Under Speaker, check which output device is selected.
- If there are multiple speakers with the same name, change one of the device names so each is unique:
- Press the Windows key and search for Sound Settings.
- Open the properties (>) of the duplicated speaker.
- Select Rename and give it a unique name.
- Back in Teams, select the correct, uniquely named speaker under Audio settings.
Also make sure:
- Teams is updated to the latest version.
- The operating system (Windows or macOS) is fully updated.
If learners still lose audio after a video, they can usually restore it faster by opening Audio settings in Teams and re-selecting their speaker device instead of leaving and rejoining.
