Use the following steps to troubleshoot an unresponsive Microsoft 365 sidebar in Edge:
- Confirm the Edge sidebar is fully enabled
- In managed (work/school) environments, the sidebar can be blocked by policy.
- An admin should check the
HubsSidebarEnabled policy in Group Policy:
- Open Group Policy Editor → Administrative Templates → Microsoft Edge → Show Hubs Sidebar.
- Set it to Enabled to allow the sidebar, then restart Edge.
- Check for extension or policy conflicts with sidebar apps
- Sidebar apps (including Microsoft 365) are implemented as extensions and can be blocked or forced via policy.
- An admin should review these policies under Administrative Templates → Microsoft Edge → Extensions:
- Control which extensions cannot be installed (
ExtensionInstallBlockList): ensure the Microsoft 365 sidebar app/extension ID is not blocked.
- Control which extensions are installed silently (
ExtensionInstallForceList): if used, verify the configuration is correct so the app is installed and enabled.
- After any change, restart Edge.
- Test in a new Edge profile
- A corrupted profile or conflicting extension can break sidebar behavior.
- In Edge, select the profile icon → Add profile → Add.
- In the new profile, check whether the Microsoft 365 sidebar icons respond to clicks.
- If they work in the new profile, reset or recreate the original profile.
- Update Microsoft Edge
- Outdated builds can cause sidebar and Copilot/365 app issues.
- Go to
edge://settings/help, let Edge check for and install updates, then restart the browser.
- Reset Edge settings (last resort, non-destructive to data)
- Go to
edge://settings/reset.
- Select Restore settings to their default values.
- Be aware this:
- Resets startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs.
- Disables all extensions and clears temporary data (cookies).
- Keeps favorites, history, and saved passwords.
- After reset, test the sidebar again before re-enabling extensions.
If the issue persists in all profiles and after reset/update, collect diagnostics before contacting support:

- Active policies export from
edge://policy.
- Screenshot of sidebar settings from

- OS version and account type (personal vs work/school), as tenant settings can affect sidebar apps.
