Open a document to be on top.

How can I get a document to open on top?  When I click on a file in the library it always opens in the background and the icon on the task bar is flashing to show me that it has been opened, but it is behind everything on the desktop.  When I click on a document to open it and I have other documents open, I want it on top.  Can this be done?

This behavior is typically caused by the Windows taskbar not being set to stay on top of other windows.

To make newly opened windows come to the foreground when you click their taskbar icons:

    1. Press ALT+TAB once so you can switch to another program if needed.
    2. Select Start > Settings > Taskbar & Start Menu (or right‑click the taskbar and choose Properties on older versions of Windows).
    3. On the Taskbar Options tab, enable the Always On Top check box.
    4. Click OK.

After this, when a document opens and its taskbar icon flashes, clicking that icon should bring the window to the front instead of leaving it hidden behind other windows.

If a specific window still opens off‑screen or behind others, use ALT+TAB to select it, then right‑click its taskbar button and choose Maximize or Move to bring it into view.

For a more general way to keep any window visible above others, install Microsoft PowerToys and use the Always On Top utility. After installation, press Win+Ctrl+T while a window is active to pin it above all other windows; press the same shortcut again to unpin it.
