Hello I am writing as I have been locked out of my Yahoo account for four days and one of the agents mentioned that, Even though I turned off two step verification for Yahoo, I may still have Your authenticator app associated with Yahoo and to have you turn it off As it is interfering with the recovery process. Two things to Please keep in mind; I cannot get into my Yahoo account at the present time to do this myself, And I don't know if this helps, but I don't have your app on my Android phone any longer As I decided to no use this method of verification but perhaps you still have to turn it off on your end (??). I would appreciate any assistance. By the way, Not sure why Microsoft is asking about A child as I don't have children so I'm not sure why they are making the child field mandatory to answer. Thank you, Mark.

    Hi Mark Del Gatto,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

I understand how frustrating it is to be locked out of your account for several days. Unfortunately, Microsoft cannot turn off, remove, or change the authenticator settings for a Yahoo account.

Even if you previously used Microsoft Authenticator, the control over two‑step verification belongs entirely to Yahoo. Microsoft has no “server‑side switch” to disable an authenticator for third‑party services.

In addition, Microsoft Authenticator is only a local code generator – simply, a tool. It does not manage, override, or recover any security settings. If you don’t have access to the app anymore, no one can get the code(s) for you.

For this issue, Yahoo is the only party that can make any difference. I know this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but this is the only supported path.

P/S: The “child” field in the question does not mean children - it means choosing sub tag of the sub tag.

Unfortunately, I cannot assist with turning off the authenticator app or making changes to your account settings. To resolve the issue with your Yahoo account and the associated authenticator app, I recommend contacting Yahoo support directly for assistance. They will be able to help you with the recovery process and any necessary changes to your account settings.
