When I create a synapse workspace, I have this error:

yet in my workspace when I ask for a quota my limit is 250???

The error ReachedPerSubscriptionWorkspaceLimit occurs because Azure Synapse Analytics enforces a hard subscription-level limit on the number of workspaces, which is separate from the quota shown in the portal.

Why does this happen?

The Current workspace count limit (250) displayed in the portal refers to a soft quota for resource requests, not the enforced subscription cap.

For your subscription type (Pay-As-You-Go), the default maximum is 3 Synapse workspaces per subscription, regardless of the portal quota.

This is by design and applies across all regions for that subscription.

How to resolve this?

To increase the limit beyond the default:

Open an Azure Support request:

Go to https://portal.azure.com/#blade/Microsoft_Azure_Support/HelpAndSupportBlade.

Choose Issue type: Service and subscription limits (quotas).

Specify Synapse workspace quota increase and provide your subscription details.

Microsoft will review and approve the exception if applicable.

I cannot request a quota increase because it's already maxed out.

The error occurs because Azure Synapse Analytics enforces a hard limit for the “Increase workspaces per subscription” quota type. The maximum value you can enter in the portal for this request is 200, even if your current limit is higher (e.g., 250). This is why the portal validation fails when you enter 251.

The 200 value is the highest allowed in the request field, not the actual workspace limit.

Your subscription already has a special allocation of 250, which exceeds the standard configurable range.

Self-service quota increase requests cannot go beyond this hard limit.

I have reached out to our Product Group team regarding your case, and they have now increased your Synapse workspace limit to 4 for your subscription. Could you please try creating a new workspace again and confirm if it works as expected?

I have the same issue. can't create a support ticket to increase the limit from 2 to whatever, because the portal says it is already 250 (which is obviously not true). how can I reach out to support, because due to this error, I cannot create a support ticket...
