Calibri Light no longer available as a default font on Outlook 2025 for Mac

The new Outlook has just updated on my Mac. This has removed Calibri light as my default font for emails, our companies default font is Calibri Light - so this is a problem.

If you go to Settings > Fonts > "New email" OR "Reply or forward". Calibri Light is not listed under available Default fonts- only Calibri, and if you select Calibri a styles panel to choose Light does not appear as some suggest.

Weirdly, Calibri Light is still available to choose as a "Preview" font and is available as a font choice when composing an email. However, I write a large amount of emails a day and would like not to have to select the font each time.

Following instructions from a previous thread I installed the font Calibri Light into my mac Font Book and restarted outlook and my Macbook. Still not available as an option.

I have been able to use a workaround for this issue, at least temporarily.

Under the Help menu, selecting "Clear Application Data" and clearing all of the available choices seems to bring back the full font selection menu after Outlook restarts.

I have tried this fix on two computers:

    • Outlook for Mac 16.103.2 (25112216) and Mac OS 15.6.1 (24G90) - worked immediately
    • Outlook for Mac 16.103.2 (25112216) and Mac OS 26.1 (25B78) - required a couple of attempts until it worked

I'll likely have to redo this every time Outlook updates (which seems to be almost weekly), but at least the fonts stick when composing and reading emails now.

    I hope this is helpful!

I used the following workaround in MacOS:

I made a copy of the Calibri Light file (calibril.ttf), changed the name of the file to calibri.ttf and then replaced the original Calibri file in the folder Resources > DFonts, inside the Outlook package. Now Calibri and Calibri Light are the same font for Outlook, and therefore I'm able to set up Calibri Light as my default font. ;)

    Dear Tilly Wicks,

Welcome, and thank you for sharing your issue on the Q&A forum.
We understand the importance of maintaining consistency with your organization’s branding standards, and we appreciate your diligence in attempting to resolve the issue.

Following the recent update to the New Outlook on macOS, it has been observed that Calibri Light is no longer available as a selectable option in the default font settings under:

    • Settings > Fonts > New email
    • Settings > Fonts > Reply or forward

While the font remains accessible during manual composition and within the preview list, it cannot currently be designated as the default font through the standard configuration interface.

We recommend the following steps to further investigate and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Verify Font Installation: Ensure that all Calibri font variants, including Calibri Light (calibril.ttf), are correctly installed via Font Book and located in the appropriate system font directories.
    2. Clear macOS Font Cache: Font visibility issues may be related to cached data. You may reset the font cache by executing the following command in Terminal: Then restart your Mac.
    3. Configure Font via Outlook Web App (OWA): Visit https://outlook.office.com, navigate to Settings > Mail > Compose and reply, and attempt to set Calibri Light as your default font. This configuration may synchronize with your desktop application.
    4. The New Outlook for Mac may not support font style variants (e.g., Light, Bold) within the default font selection menu. This appears to be a design limitation and may affect other fonts as well.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to identify a suitable solution. Should you wish to escalate this matter or submit feedback to Microsoft, we would be happy to assist.
