Cannot open MS Defender on iPhone

I've had Defender loaded onto my Macbook air and iPhone. On iPhone, I cannot get it to open. Keeps telling me I have an "invalid license, please contact administrator." There is no administrator. I don't know what they're talking about. This has been going on for over a year. Fine on laptop.

I have the same issue with them as defender on iOS 18.5 and iphone16. The phone freezes every day. And needs to be rebooted I contacted Apple support and the recommended removing the Microsoft VPN and since doing so the phone is working fine

    Dear Donna,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue you're experiencing with Microsoft Defender on your iPhone. I’m sorry to hear about the ongoing frustration, and I appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.

The error message indicating an "invalid license" often points to a subscription or account-related issue. Since your Defender is working fine on your MacBook Air, this may be device-specific. Let’s try the following steps to address the issue:

    1. Verify Subscription Status: Ensure that your Microsoft Defender subscription is active and associated with the same account you are using on your iPhone. You can check your subscription details by logging into your Microsoft account at Microsoft Account Portal.
    2. Reinstall Microsoft Defender:
      • Uninstall the Microsoft Defender app from your iPhone.
      • Restart your iPhone to clear any cached issues.
      • Reinstall the app from the App Store and sign in with the correct Microsoft account credentials.
    3. Clear Data from Previous Installations: In rare cases, residual data from a prior installation might interfere with the app's functionality. Reinstalling the app (as described above) typically resolves this.
    4. Check for iOS and App Updates: Confirm that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS, and ensure the Microsoft Defender app is up-to-date from the App Store.
    5. Contact Microsoft Support Directly: If the issue persists, the error might be related to your specific account setup. In that case, I recommend reaching out to our Microsoft Support team for tailored assistance. You can do so at Microsoft Support.

Please let us know how these steps work for you. Should the problem continue, we’re here to help identify further solutions.

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Defender, and we’re committed to ensuring it works smoothly for you.

    Regards,

Zenitsu | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
