Microsoft Purview eDiscovery supports many file types at many different levels. The following tables list the currently supported file types.
These tables indicate if a file type is supported for text extraction and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) text extraction for image files, if it's viewable in the native viewer, and if it's supported in the Annotate viewer in eDiscovery.

Note
The OCR text extraction column indicates that you can extract text from these image formats when you enable eDiscovery OCR for the case and the item is processed during advanced indexing. OCR text extraction occurs when you add the items to the review set. It doesn't make these image types searchable by text content during search.
